Hello, Friends! It's springtime and things are sprouting up everywhere! We've been busy putting together an exciting event to entice and surprise your senses. This April's Fools Day will be a day the likes of which Syracuse has not seen before. With gracious co-hosting by Szozda Gallery, we cordially invite you to a Book Eating Party.
A book eating party?! What kind of madness is this, you may ask. More commonly known as an edible book festival, this is actually a very popular ongoing event amongst cuisine-inspired bibliophiles and book-loving gourmets. Since its first incarnation in 1990, more and more people have gotten the urge to create books and book-themed sculptures with eatables such as bread, graham crackers, kale, chocolate, pretzels, etc. Come join us on April 1st as we celebrate nourishing books and food in ways that are silly, sublime, creative, witty, delicious and great fun! Be prepared for a wonderfully unique event with fabulous raffle items, a make-your-own-book station, thrilling refreshments and genteel friends.
If you would like to participate by bringing your own creation, bring it to the gallery at 1 o'clock along with a sheet that has your name, book title, and all ingredients listed. Entries may be book shaped such as a codex, accordion, scroll, tablet, etc. They may also be based on a pun of a book title or depict a particular book cover that is displayed next to the piece.
If you would like to contribute to the refreshments fund or donate an item for our raffle, your name will be proudly proclaimed along with promotional materials you may wish to display. For further information or to make a donation, please email saltcitybookarts@gmail.com. As a new group in town, we look forward to support from our community of fellow bookbinders, letterpressers, printmakers, book artists, designers and aficionados of the book arts.
Sunday, April 1st. 1 - 4pm, book eating at 3pm. Szozda Gallery located at 501 W Fayette Street, Syracuse, NY. Free and open to the public.
