Nava Atlas and Maureen Cummins, Schwartzberg Lecture @ 5pm, Thursday, Wells College, Aurora, NY
The Wells College Book Arts Center is happy to announce the 33rd Susan
Garretson Swartzburg ’60 Memorial Book Arts Lecture. We have two speakers this
year: Nava Atlas and Maureen Cummins, who, with Ann Lovett, are the three book
artists featured in the show ‘In Retrospect: Artist’s Books and Works on
Paper.’ Wells is the fifth and final venue for this show, which has also been
at Hope College, SUNY Ulster, Lafayette College and Visual Studies Workshop.
The show should be of interest to anyone keeping up the wide variety of
contemporary artist books, as the examples in the show are of very high
caliber. ‘In Retrospect’ is in the String Room Gallery in Main Building (look
for the bell tower) on the Wells College campus in Aurora, New York. The
gallery talks begin at 5:00 PM on Thursday, April 19th and are free and open
to the public.

The Book Eating Party Raffle
It was an exciting and well-attended Book Eating Party yesterday! What a truly wonderful time seeing the wide range of edible books everyone brought in and the crowds that came to appreciate them! And also seeing what was created at the build-your-own station was a genuine delight! So much marveling and smiles at the unpredictable combinations of ingredients and book titles! HUGE THANKS to everyone who attended, who donated items to our impressive raffle, who brought in books to share, who told their friends, who purchased tickets, who can’t wait til next year’s Book Eating Party! Please stay tuned for more upcoming events with Szozda Gallery and Salt City Book Arts at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Szozda-Gallery/177944902223240 and http://saltcitybookarts.blogspot.com/
We would like to publicly thank our sponsors of the raffle prizes. Thank you, Bill Delavan, Nathan Wellner, Reg Sanford, Peter Verheyen, Amy Komar, and AIGA Upstate. Also immense thanks to Cayetano Valenzuela for the quintessential illustration that has been the face of the party and to Mozart and Mike of Underground Poetry Spot for bringing us a thought-provoking performance. With your generosity and support, we have achieved more fuel to keep offering cultural events like this in Syracuse, supporting our community of artists, bookbinders, letterpressers, printmakers, designers, photographers, painters, sculptors, potters, all inspired workers and businesses that support us. We are a vibrant community with so much to offer! Together, we create the place we want to live in. Thank you.

Thank you all for coming out to Szozda Gallery for a silly happy afternoon having our book and eating it too :P We had so many creative entries and people building their own edible works, some that were actually too delicious to be on display! And O what fabulous raffle items! Here are some pictures to give you a taste of the party. More will be posted tomorrow.
