Happenings around here

Well, it has been a Time Warp, several months have felt like one! The book arts are alive in Central New York! Here's some events/info to check out.

If you can make it tonight, October 12th, do go see the show "The Machine - La Maquina" and meet printmaker Favianna Rodriquez at ArtRage Gallery in Syracuse's Hawley/Green neighborhood. She will be at the gallery from 7 - 9pm. Her work is a fascinating blend of traditional and digital media that speaks about subjects like "literal and imaginative migration, global community and interdependence". If you can't go tonight, the show will be open until October 29th. For more info, the gallery website is artragegallery.org.

Another exciting event happening is a Letterpress Garage Sale hosted by Dock2 Letterpress in Rochester this Saturday, October 15th from 10am - 4pm. There will be a staggering array of items to choose from such as presses, packaged type, type cases, cabinets, dingbats and cuts oh my! Its sure to be an action-packed day! Their website is dock2letterpress.com.

On October 22 is the powerhouse Salt City Urban Art and Craft Market featuring many wonderful imaginative crafters including (me!) Amaranth Press and Bindery with handbound books, letterpress work by superstars Smock, Dock2 Letterpress, Pistachio Press and Ink + Wit plus much more fine craft work. The Market will run from 10am - 6pm in the Armory Square area of Syracuse at King+King Architects 358 W. Jefferson Street. There will be delicious food and drink, fine music and great people to meet! More info including vendor listing and directions at www.saltcitycraftmart.com.

Here's a couple websites to share. Our friends at Boxcar Press have released some new letterpress instructional videos. Look at BITS: The Boxcar Institute Training Series Videos for topics such as Adjusting Roller Height, Two Colors One Plate and Mixing Ink. These videos are a great way to learn more about printing and see Harold and company in action. Also check out the blog which has been featuring posts from the magnificent printshop amongst other interesting posts.

Another website I can't get enough of is Printeresting It is loaded with many intriguing (letterpress laden) posts that show works from artists around the world, studio visits and exhibitions. I was thrilled to see a post from October 5th showing pictures of their visit with our favorite Amos Kennedy Jr. in his Alabama studio. It looks like heaven and I'm jealous they got to visit before me. Don't worry, Mr. Kennedy, I'll be barreling into your town one of these days!

Enough for now! Go do things and make things! I will do the same. Have a Splendid Day :D
